NYC 4-8-2 #3002 - New York Central
Title:  NYC 4-8-2 #3002 - New York Central
Description:  In this fair quality photo taken by an unidentified rail fan, NYC 4-8-2 Mohawk #3002 sits in a large unknown yard. Built by Alco-Schenectady in Ocgtober of 1940, the massive "elephant ear" smoke deflectors give the loco a more "Euorpean look" than American. The loco served the NYC until retirement in January of 1955 and being sold for scrap in June of 1955. Specs - L-3a class, 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 25.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 398,000 lb, tractive effort of 60,077 lb. No location or photographer was listed for the photo and only the date of 1948 was given.
